Bud Stratton and Willette Baglin

Melissa’s maternal grandparents

They graduated from high school in January of 1951.  They were married on June 29, 1951 in a small backyard ceremony at the home of Grandpa’s sister.  When they went to get their marriage license Grandpa’s mother had to go with them.  At that time if the groom was under 19 years of age, a parent had to give approval for the marriage.  As they were standing there his mother made the comment that he was ‘barely wet behind the years”.  They honeymooned in San Francisco.

During the Korean War he was stationed in Japan for two years.  One day she received an unexpected call from him letting her know that he was in Hawaii and on his way home.

Their legacy is great!  They have four children, 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.  At their 50th wedding anniversary, their children were asked to share thoughts about their parents.  Each child stated that they never had to question if Mom and Dad loved each.  What a wonderful gift they shared.
